How to Establish the Size You Need
Generally, the make and model number of the engine, transmission, or other pieces of equipment will determine what size of quick oil drain plug you need. Occasionally, the year of manufacture could also be a factor in determining size. In rare cases, the serial number of the piece of equipment will have to be obtained, and the equipment manufacturer or dealer will need to be contacted. If none of these options yield the desired size, the original drain plug will have to be removed and measured.
How to Measure Diameter
Oil drain plug diameter is best measured in millimeters using digital calipers. Measure the width of the plug across the base of the plug, at the widest part of the threads.
How to Measure Thread Pitch
Thread pitch is either the number of threads per inch (SAE) or the distance between the threads in millimeters (Metric). You must use a thread pitch gauge to measure the thread pitch.
How to take an Oil Sample Using No-Spill™ Drain Plugs
Taking an oil sample with No-Spill™ drain plugs is quick, clean, and easy. Simply attach the No-Spill™ Sampler to the oil drain plug and take as much of a sample as you need.
